According to the National Police Directorate:
- Slightly more than 1700 officers are in quarantine.
- 13 officers are confirmed infected.
Out of contingency capacity concerns, the National Police Directorate cannot provide detailed information about the quarantined employees, but the police still have the necessary operational capacity to provide public security and bear down on crime.
– More employees will most probably be infected or placed under quarantine in the weeks to come. We are prepared for a situation where we will have to ensure the continuity of critical functions with even more absentees, says National Police Commissioner Benedicte Bjørnland.
We will therefore boost the police force by hiring up to 400 newly qualified police officers on a temporary basis, and the deployment of this additional work capacity will shortly be decided. The overall aim is to maintain public security, law and order in a time where the coronavirus pandemic strains our police resources.
We are constantly overseeing this situation in a close dialogue with the police districts and specialist agencies, and their feedback indicates that the police's response capacity is sufficient.
The police currently receive a great number of requests from both the media, citizens and the business sector. We kindly ask for your patience as it may take some time before your request is answered.
