How to apply for a licence

1. Consider the following before you apply:
   • You must get a licence before you are allowed to start doing business.
   • You can do business only from premises approved by the police. This also applies to any storage facilities you may have.
   • The police will give you a licence to deal in second-hand goods only if you pass a background check.
   • Only a licence-holder may do the actual dealing. If anyone else is going to do the dealing, they must also be licensed to do so.
2. Complete the application form and add attachments:
   • Fill out the application for a licence to deal in second-hand goods, print it out and sign it.
   • Attach your business's certificate of registration from the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises.
   • Send the application form and attached certificate by post to the police district where the company has its registered business address or head office.
3. How long it takes

   You should receive a reply to your application within four weeks. However, the time it takes to process an application may vary from one police district to another.

   If your application has been refused, you can appeal. You must submit your appeal no later than three weeks after you received the police's decision. Send your appeal to the police district that made the decision.
