General Information about Online Crime Reports

The online reporting system currently covers four categories of offenses: theft, vandalism, burglary, and fraud. You can report theft, vandalism, and burglary in the same report, as long as these offenses are part of the same incident and involve the same victim. If multiple perpetrators are involved in the same offense, only one report should be submitted.

The online reporting system saves changes automatically and continuously. This means that you do not need to complete the entire report in one session. You can log in again within 30 days to continue any reports you have started.

Filling Out the Report

For the police to respond effectively to the offense, it is important to provide detailed descriptions of the incident and as much information as possible. Some details are important to include even if they are not mandatory, such as serial numbers of stolen items or national ID numbers of the persons involved.

If several perpetrators are involved, it is important to describe clearly what each individual did and why they are suspected of the offense.

If the police have already been called to the scene, make sure to agree on who will submit the report to avoid duplicate reporting. A report should be submitted to the police as soon as possible after the incident has occurred.

Attachments

Surveillance footage or other documentation can be attached to the report. The reporting system supports only the following file formats: gif, png, jpeg, jpg, heic, heif, mp4, mov, webm, avi, and pdf. If your file is in another format, it must be converted to one of these before it can be attached.

Claims for Compensation

If the case results in a fine or a court proceeding against the perpetrator, the prosecuting authority may request compensation on behalf of the victim.

If a business wishes to file a compensation claim, an authorization must be attached, confirming that the person submitting the report is authorized to claim compensation on behalf of the company. The authorization must include information about who grants it, who receives it, and what it authorizes. It should also be signed with place and date.

It is important to provide good documentation of the victim’s financial loss and explain why the loss should be compensated.

Any compensation claims should be submitted together with the report.

After Submitting the Report

If you wish to provide additional information regarding a submitted report, you must use the case number when contacting the police. You can find the case number in the overview of your submitted reports. The case number can also be used as a reference in a new report that you believe is connected to a previous incident.
