Travel out of Norway with a firearm

Before you travel, travel checklist, travel to Sweden, travel with a firearms pass, travel outside the EU/EEA, apply for a temporary export licence

  1. Before you travel

Always check the applicable rules when crossing the border from one country to another. This also applies to any countries you will pass through. Contact the Norwegian embassy or consulate in the country or countries concerned for further details. Here is a list of Norwegian foreign service stations published on the Norwegian government website regjeringen.no. You must also check whether special rules apply to any of the weapons components you want to take abroad with you. For example, is a silencer or a telescopic sight legal in the country you will be using the weapon in?

    Sweden has its own rules

Special rules apply if you want to travel to Sweden with a firearm. It is not enough to have a valid European Firearms Pass.

    • You must register the weapon(s) you will be bringing into Sweden before you travel. You can do this online via the Swedish Customs Service's website. You can also declare your weapon(s) in person to a Swedish customs official when you cross the border.

Travel to countries inside the EU/EEA with a valid European Firearms Pass

Are you planning to travel to an EU/EEA country? Apply for a European Firearms Pass before you travel. It will make your journey easier.

Travel without a valid European Firearms Pass and travel to countries outside the EU/EEA

If you do not have a European Firearms Pass, you must declare your weapon(s) when you travel into or out of Norway. This also applies if you are travelling to a country outside the EU/EEA. To declare a weapon means giving written notice that you are travelling with the weapon.

    • Download and fill out the declaration regarding the temporary export of a firearm.
