Møre og Romsdal politidistrikt har etterforska ulukka der tre utanlandske turistar omkom på havet utanfor Smøla tidlegare i mai.
(English version follows.)Like før midnatt søndag 10. mai fekk operasjonssentralen melding om at eit turfølgje med tre fisketuristar ikkje hadde returnert som planlagt. Det vart sett i verk ein omfattande leiteaksjon i samarbeid med dei andre naudetatane. Redningshelikopter, redningsskøyte, Kystvakta og frivillige deltok i søket.Natt til måndag 11. mai, nokre timar seinare, vart alle dei tre turistane funne livlause i sjøen av redningshelikopteret. Alle hadde på seg flytedressar. – Dei omkomne er tre menn i 60-åra. To er frå Tsjekkia og ein frå Slovakia. Nasjonalitet og identitet er stadfesta, og pårørande er varsla, seier politifullmektig Lotte Eriksen Reitan i Møre og Romsdal politidistrikt.Krevjande for mindre båtarBåten vart lokalisert dagen etter av Kystvakta. Det var ein mindre aluminiumsbåt med ein motor på 60 hk. – Det er ikkje funne teikn til grunnstøyting eller kontakt med skjer. Vêrforholda var krevjande for mindre båtar utanfor skjergarden denne dagen, forklarer Eriksen Reitan. This prompted a comprehensive rescue operation in cooperation with other emergency services: a rescue helicopter and rescue vessel, the Norwegian Coast Guard and volunteers.A few hours later, on the 11th of May, the rescue helicopter found the men lifeless in the sea. All three were wearing floatation suits.– The three deceased are men in their sixties. Two were from the Czech Republic and one from Slovakia. Their nationality and identity have been confirmed and next of kin have been notified, says Police Prosecutor Lotte Eriksen Reitan of Møre og Romsdal Police District.Challenging conditions for small vesselsThe boat was localised the following day by the Coast Guard. It was a small aluminium boat fitted with a 60 hp engine.– There were no signs of the boat having run aground or having been in contact with rocks. The weather conditions were challenging for small vessels on the time of the accident, says Eriksen Reitan.A tragic accidentThe preliminary post-mortem report indicated that drowning was the probable cause of death.– The incident is assessed to be a tragic accident in which the vessel capsized as a result of heavy seas.
