How to request a police certificate of conduct

1. Check if you are allowed to request a police certificate of conduct

   The following conditions must be met:

   • Police certificate of conduct are issued only if you have a legal right to request one. It is not issued on a general basis.
   • A person must be required to show the certificate before they start working or studying, or take up a position of trust.
   • When the police certificate of conduct is shown to the person requesting it, it must not be more than three months old.
   • You cannot request a new certificate if the person still has the same job or position of trust.
   • You can request a new certificate if the person concerned gets a new job or if they left the job or position for a period of time and have now gone back to it. This also applies if the nature of the work they have to do changes. In such cases, you must give the person applying for a new police certificate of conduct an updated confirmation of its purpose.

   As an employer or client, you are responsible for knowing whether you can request a police certificate of conduct from an employee, student or other person.

3. Complete the purpose confirmation form

   Fill out the purpose confirmation form (if required). Send the completed confirmation to the applicant.

4. Do you need an updated background check?

   You are allowed to request an updated background check if:

   • someone has previously shown you a police certificate og conduct for a particular purpose, and
   • you have new information about that person which may have an impact on that certificate.

   How to request an updated background check

   1. Complete the form requesting an updated background check (94 kB pdf) .
   2. Attach documentation about the person's original police certificate og conduct. This could be a case number or a scanned copy of the actual certificate.
   3. Send the request to the department in the police that deals with criminal record certificates and background checks.
   4. We will send you a written reply to your request and the result of the updated background check. We also send a copy to the person concerned.
